Background

The Global Survivors Fund (GSF) was launched in October 2019 by Dr Denis Mukwege and Nadia Murad, 2018 Nobel Peace Prize laureates. Its mission is to enhance access to reparation for survivors of conflict-related sexual violence around the globe, responding to a gap long identified by survivors.

GSF acts to provide interim reparative measures in situations where states or other parties are unable or unwilling to meet their responsibilities. It advocates for duty bearers and the international community to develop reparations programmes. It also guides states and civil society by providing expertise and technical support for the design of reparation programmes. GSF’s survivor-centric approach is the cornerstone of its work.

Reparation Praxis Hub

The Reparation Praxis Hub collaborates with all units at GSF to produce, systematise, and share knowledge on what works in reparation for conflict-related sexual violence. It focuses on examining transversal key topics relevant to reparation, identifying and sharing best practices, and fostering communities of practice on conflict-related sexual violence and reparation. The Hub is also home to the Global Reparations Study, GSF’s multi-country initiative that examines the status of and opportunities for reparations for survivors of conflict-related sexual violence using a survivor-centred and participatory methodology.

Building on the Study, the experience of other GSF units, and knowledge emerging from practice, the Hub aims to: (i) promote institutional learning, (ii) produce practical tools, (iii) support actors directly engaged in reparation efforts, and (iv) strengthen collective learning and collaboration.
